Nab are 2005 County Minor Champions!
11 Jun 2005
Player of the Match Mairead McClelland turned in a classy performance in the 2005 county minor championship final between St Brenda's and An Port Mor and set the Nab girls on their way within the 1st minute of the game with a stylish point from play. This signalled the pattern of the first half where the Nab's midfield of Corina McKee and Geraldine Gray were dominant providing constant supply ball to the forward line where Aideen Canavan dominated around the square and Maria Corr was excellent on the wing.
The half time scoreline of St Brenda's 13-6, An Port Mor 0-0 told the tale of the dominance of the Nab girls and while the very young Port Mor side, who will have 13 of their starting lineup stiull playing minor next year, battled right to the end, they were outplayed by the strength of the Ballymacnab team.
A number of positional changes and substitutions were made at half time which saw Port Mor coming more into the game and they scored an excellent goal after a fine solo run from their excellent number 9. However the girls from Ballymacnab were determined to make it their night and they tagged further goals and points, notably Nicola McCormack who scored a fine 3-1 when coming into the fray.
Showing well for the Nab on the night were Mairead McClelland who was too hot to handle, Aideen Canavan who scored five goals, Maria Corr who’s two points were expertly executed, Shauna Grugan who registered two goals when moving from defence to the forward line, Nicola McCormack whose tigerish display in attack resulted in her hat-trick, Sinead Murphy, Amy Lavery, Shanna Leonard, Petrina Cosgrove, Megan Leonard & Laura Gray.
Well Done to the Nab panel who are this year’s county champions: Catherine Toner, Hannah Hughes, Orla O’Hare, Shauna Grugan, Shauna Smyth, Aileen McParland, Edel McParland, Geraldine Gray (capt), Corina McKee, Natalie Gray, Mairead McClelland, Colleen McGuigan, Emma McParland, Aideen Canavan, Maria Corr, Erin O’Hare, Emma McManus, Shanna Leonard, Megan Leonard, Ashling Toner, Sarah Vallely, Petrina Cosgrove, Amy Lavery, Louise Toner, Laura Gray, Sinead Murphy & Nicola McCormack. They have done their management team and club proud.
