Hearkbreak for Armagh Minors
09 Aug 2005
It was a case of 'out of the bag in the dying minutes' for Armagh's Gallant Minor team on Sunday past when the Offaly girls fought back from 5 points down with 5 minutes to go to win by 2 points on a scoreline of 3-8 to 1-12. This was a very exciting match with things swinging one way and then the other and a draw would have been a fairer result, however late into injury time Offaly conjured up 2 points to leave the Orchard cailini too much to do. They did almost snatch victory from the jaws of defeat when lively substitute forward Claire Donnelly nearly made it through but stout Offaly defence closed the doors on a late Armagh comeback. Armagh can be proud of their performance and were so unlucky not have have been the first All Ireland Minor team from the county, but the Nab's contingent of Catherine Toner who was superb again in goals, Emma McParland and Colleen McGuigan in defence, Orla O'Hare & Carina McKee who scored Armagh's first goal and panelists Aideen Canavan, Louise Toner & Shanna Leonard can be proud of their representation of the club at this level. The Management team also included Gerard Gribben and Paula McGuigan who have put so much work into this years minors and almost brought off a famous victory.
