Senior C/ship semi-final a thriller!
08 Jun 2006
The Nab and Keady played an enthralling match in sunny Raparee Park, Madden last night and it took a last gasp equalising point by Keady's Colleen Kinsella to deprive the Nab girls of their first senior championship final in seven years. The final scoreline was St Brenda's Ballymacnab 2-6 St Patrick's Keady 1-9, with fast flowing camogie flowing from end to end.
Scoreres for St Brenda's: Michelle McGuigan 1-5 Geraldine Gray 1-0 Michaela King 0-1. This was a spectacular performance from the Nab's scoring sensation Michelle McGuigan who was battling to overcome the effects of injury and despite the attentions of a Keady defence who fought hard but failed to keep her scoreless.
Olive McGeown was outstanding in the half back line and Laura Gribben in full back was simply majestic. Stephanie McParland, Aileen McParland and Melissa Lavery also had sound games while Mairead McClelland and Emma McParland showed up very well when coming into the fray in the second half.
Despite battling very hard and winning considerable possession, the Nab's lack of finishing upfront, added to by too many simple frees for Keady from their defence, combined with several key players playing below par, leaves the Nab with much to think about for the final.
